LCL W/M calculator

LCL Chargeable Volume Calculator

Compare shipment volume with its weight-based equivalent and estimate the higher chargeable measure for LCL freight.

Configurable W/M formula
Chargeable measure = max(CBM, gross weight ÷ kg-per-CBM factor)
Estimated base freight = max(chargeable measure × rate, minimum charge)
The default 1,000 kg per CBM is a common W/M comparison convention, not a universal tariff rule. Enter the conversion factor, rate and minimum from your forwarder quote. Origin, destination, documentation and other local charges are not included.

LCL chargeable measure varies by tariff

Freight forwarders can apply minimums, W/M ratios, density rules and origin/destination charges differently. This tool exposes the conversion factor so you can match the quote or tariff you are working with.

Worked example

At a configurable factor of 1,000 kg per chargeable CBM, a 1,800 kg shipment has a weight-equivalent measure of 1.8. If its physical volume is 2.4 CBM, the higher comparison measure is 2.4.

Frequently asked questions

Is 1,000 kg per CBM a universal LCL rule?

No. It is a common weight/measure comparison convention, but tariffs and forwarders can use different factors, minimums and charging rules.

Does this calculator estimate the final LCL invoice?

No. Origin, destination, documentation, minimum and other charges can apply in addition to the chargeable measure.
