Freight Cost Per Unit Calculator

Spread freight and related logistics charges across the units in a shipment to estimate logistics cost per unit.

Formula
Cost per unit = included logistics costs ÷ shipment units

Use a consistent cost scope

Decide whether the calculation should include only line-haul freight or broader landed logistics costs. Consistent scope makes comparisons between shipments more meaningful.

Worked example

If a shipment includes 2,500 in freight and 350 in handling across 1,000 units, the included logistics cost is 2,850 and the calculated cost per unit is 2.85 in the same currency.

Frequently asked questions

Should duty be included?

Include duty, customs or other charges only when they belong to the cost scope you want to measure. Use the same scope when comparing shipments.

Does this calculate product landed cost?

It calculates the logistics costs you enter per unit. Product purchase cost, tax and other components must be added separately if you need a broader landed-cost model.
