Container Loading Calculator

Compare shipment CBM and gross cargo weight with example container capacity and payload limits.

Preset values are examples from Hapag-Lloyd equipment specifications. Actual container dimensions and payloads vary by equipment and manufacturer; verify the specific container before operational use.

Capacity is not the same as usable loading space

Door openings, carton geometry, dunnage, weight distribution and loading constraints can reduce usable capacity. Treat this as a planning check, not a loading guarantee.

Example preset source: Hapag-Lloyd standard container specifications.

Worked example

A 20 CBM, 12,000 kg shipment compared with the example 20-foot standard preset uses about 60% of the example cubic capacity and about 43% of the example payload capacity. Geometry may still prevent the cargo from physically fitting.

Frequently asked questions

Why is CBM utilization not a loading guarantee?

Cubic capacity does not account for carton shapes, door openings, dunnage, weight distribution, load securing or unusable spaces.

Are container dimensions universal?

No. Internal dimensions, door openings, tare and payload can vary by equipment and manufacturer. Verify the container assigned to the shipment.
