Worked example
Using the default sample sizes and a divisor of 139, the current package rounds to an estimated 19 lb DIM weight and the proposed package to 12 lb. With an 8 lb actual weight, that is a 7 lb reduction in estimated billable weight.
Frequently asked questions
Is the estimated money saving a carrier quote?
No. The cost-per-weight-unit input is a sensitivity assumption. Real parcel pricing depends on service, zone, minimums, discounts and surcharges.
Why can volume fall without billable weight changing?
If actual scale weight is already higher than both dimensional-weight results, reducing package volume may not change the higher billable-weight value.
