How volumetric weight works

Volumetric weight converts the amount of space a shipment occupies into a weight value. Different carriers and services can use different divisors, so the divisor should always be verified for the shipment being priced.

Worked example

A 60 × 40 × 35 cm carton has 84,000 cm³ of volume. With a divisor of 5,000, the volumetric weight is 16.8 kg. If you ship two identical cartons, the calculator multiplies the cubic volume before applying the divisor.

Frequently asked questions

Is volumetric weight the same as dimensional weight?

They describe the same general concept: converting package volume into a weight value. Terminology and divisors vary by carrier and market.

Which divisor should I use?

Use the divisor specified by the carrier, service or freight provider you are quoting. If it differs from the preset, enter it manually.
