Editorial Policy & Sources

PackToolbox publishes practical calculators and guides for packaging, parcel shipping, pallets, containers, freight and ecommerce fulfillment. Our editorial goal is to help readers make better operational decisions with clear formulas, transparent assumptions and links to authoritative sources.

Who publishes PackToolbox content

Articles are published under PackToolbox Editorial. This byline represents the site’s editorial process rather than an anonymous third-party contributor. PackToolbox focuses on a narrow subject area: packaging, shipping and freight planning.

How we create guides

We start with a specific user problem, such as understanding dimensional weight, comparing LCL and FCL, estimating freight cost per unit or reducing packaging volume. We then structure the article around the decision a shipper, ecommerce operator or logistics team actually needs to make.

Articles may be created with the assistance of research, calculation and AI drafting tools. We do not treat generated text as an authority by itself. Changeable rules, carrier policies, container specifications and other externally verifiable facts are checked against primary or authoritative sources where practical. Calculations are checked against the formulas stated in the article and against the relevant PackToolbox calculators.

Sources

For rules that can change, we prefer first-party sources such as carrier documentation, postal-service guidance, customs agencies, standards bodies and shipping-line equipment specifications. Examples include FedEx, UPS, USPS, DHL, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the International Chamber of Commerce, NMFTA and major ocean carriers. We link directly to source material when it materially supports the article.

Secondary sources may be used for context, but they should not replace a primary source when a primary source is reasonably available.

Calculations and methodology

PackToolbox calculators are planning tools. Each tool should state its formula, units, assumptions and important limitations. Carrier billing, freight classification, customs treatment and equipment specifications can depend on service, contract, origin, destination, commodity and current rules. Readers should confirm final requirements with the relevant carrier, forwarder, customs broker or service provider.

Our broader calculation approach is documented on the PackToolbox Methodology page.

Original analysis

Where possible, our guides go beyond repeating definitions. We include worked examples, decision tables, scenario comparisons and links to calculators so readers can test the concept with their own shipment data. When we make an estimate, we identify the assumptions behind it rather than presenting the estimate as a guaranteed outcome.

Updates and corrections

Shipping and freight rules change. We review time-sensitive articles when we become aware of material changes and update source references, dates, examples or caveats when needed. A modified date may change when the substance of an article changes; we do not change dates merely to make old content appear fresh.

If you find a factual error, broken source, calculation issue or outdated carrier rule, email editorial@packtoolbox.com or use the contact page and include the page URL and the point that needs review.

Commercial independence

PackToolbox may use advertising or other monetization in the future. Editorial explanations, formulas and comparisons should not be changed to favor an advertiser. If a page contains a material affiliate relationship or sponsored placement, it should be disclosed on that page.

External contributors and partnerships

We may selectively publish expert contributions or sponsored material when it fits PackToolbox’s subject area and meets our editorial standards. Payment does not guarantee publication, favorable coverage, search rankings or a specific link treatment. We retain final editorial control over titles, claims, sources, links and disclosures. Editorial enquiries can be sent to editorial@packtoolbox.com, while commercial partnership enquiries can be sent to partnerships@packtoolbox.com. See our Contributor & Partnership Guidelines for submission requirements.

Source hierarchy

Priority Source type Typical use
1 Primary/official documentation Carrier rules, customs guidance, standards, published service terms and vendor specifications
2 Authoritative industry sources Market context, freight trends and operational research
3 Secondary commentary Additional context when primary documentation does not answer the full operational question

Frequently asked questions

Does PackToolbox use AI?

Research, calculation and drafting tools may assist the editorial process, but generated text is not treated as an authority. Changeable facts should be checked against appropriate sources.

Can sponsored content change a calculator formula?

No. Commercial relationships should not alter the mathematical logic or stated assumptions of our tools.

How are corrections handled?

Material errors, outdated rules or broken sources may be corrected when identified, and substantive updates can change the page’s modified date.

Do you guarantee that every external source stays available?

No. External pages can move or disappear, but we aim to replace broken references when they materially support a guide.

Last word

PackToolbox is designed to make packaging and logistics calculations easier to understand and easier to test. The site is a planning resource, not a substitute for a carrier contract, legal advice, customs advice or a freight quote.
